I’d like to take a moment to invite you to 2005’s Western Pennsylvania Spring Furry Weekend which is planned for Friday, Saturday & Sunday, June 3rd, 4th & 5th, 2005.
My staff and I are taking this event, now starting its fifth year, another notch higher by incorporating our regular Pittsburgh monthly fur-meet with the Spring Fur-b-que event to create a complete weekend package!
The weekend begins Friday night at 6:30PM in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh at Ashe Krryven’s Den for an evening of games, movies and furriness at the Furry Social.
Relax and sleep in Saturday morning or take in the small shops and cozy restaurants along Walnut Street in Shady Side or Murray and Forbes Avenues in Squirrel Hill. (The birthplace of Furry Muck nearly a decade ago.)
Then the fun begins again Saturday at 2PM as we kick off 2005’s Spring Fur-b-que. We’ve reserved the Aspinwall Fireman’s Park Pavilion for this event which gives us access to parking, rest rooms, horse shoes, volley ball and the rest of the parks facilities. Food and drink will be served for dinner and an array of desserts will whet your appetite for sweets. But if all that is not enough, come for the furry fellowship and meet friends old and new!
Sunday morning we gather again for breakfast at Panera Bread in the Waterworks Mall from 10AM until Noon. (Not covered in the cost of registration.)
Sunday afternoon offers a unique opportunity. If the weather is good, we’ll spend the afternoon at the ball game and watch the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Atlanta Braves at 1:35PM at PNC Park. Tickets are $9. (Same price as an adult admission to the Zoo.) (Not covered in the cost of registration.)
I mentioned that we’re taking the event up a notch. Aside from the change in the event’s name we’re starting the process of paid registrations for the event.
Costs, to continue hosting the event the way it has been, are become prohibitive. Park rental fees, the ever increasing cost of providing the main course, replenishing consumable items, printing event programs and repairing, replacing and/or adding new equipment to support the growth require more capitol than we can continue to support.
The numbers of attendees have increased also to the point where the coordination of “pot luck” food and drink contributions is no longer feasible. We are generating more food and drink than the group could consume and much of it was going to waste.
So this year instead of RSVP’s we’re taking paid registrations and providing the locations, activities, snacks, dinner, desserts, and drinks commensurate to the number of attendees.
Pre-registration begins now and end’s Tuesday, May 31.
Pre-registration for Saturday’s Fur-b-que is $10.
Registration are available after May 31 and at the event for $15.
If you’d like to attend Friday’s Furry Social you can Pre-reg for that for $2 more. (Registration for the Friday Furry Social is open to the first 25 registrations.)
Registration after May 31 and at the door is $5.
Pre-register now by sending a check or money order made out to “Glen Rockhill” for $10 for the Spring Fur-b-que or $12 for both events. Send them care of:
Glen Rockhill, 100 W. 8th Street, Aspinwall, PA 15215.
Credit card or money transfer using PayPal may also be made but you must add an additional dollar for each pre-registration, to cover Paypal fees and charges, to foxesden @ hotmail.com.
Lodging arrangements are still being finalized and we’re looking into negotiating flat room pricing and securing room blocks with the Days Inn and Super 8 in Harmarville, just off PA Rt. 28 and PA Turnpike Exit 48.
So mark your calendars now for some fuzzy fun in the sun in the foothills of the Appalachians. The Western Pennsylvania Spring Furry Weekend, June 3, 4 & 5, 2005!!
